Britain’s Prime Minister has been holding talks with Muslim leaders to discuss ways to combat terrorism after the deadly London bombings nearly two weeks ago. Opposition leaders joined the gathering which sought to establish what led Britons to become suicide bombers. This is one of several meetings Tony Blair will hold this week on how to fight extremism in the Muslim community.

One of the London suicide bombers was from MP Shahid Malik’s constituency. He says the Muslim community has to act: “We fully understand that we must work much better with the police and the security services and there is a massive appetite up and down the country from the British Muslim community to take responsibility and leadership.” The government also announced it would release some 15 million euros to the criminal injuries compensation scheme to help those hurt by the London bombs. Yesterday British Muslim religious leaders issued a fatwa or religious decree in response to the terrorist attack which condemned the destruction of innocent lives.
