At least eight people are now known to have died after three separate car bomb explosions in Baghdad this morning. These are the latest in a series of bombings over the past five days, attacks which are estimated to have killed at least 100 people and wounded more than 150. An explosion yesterday hit a funeral procession in the northern town of Tal Afar, killing at least 30 people and injuring around 50.

One of the bombings this morning targeted the convoy of a senior Interior Ministry official, who escaped unhurt. Another explosion went off in a shopping district, killing half a dozen passers-by, and two policemen died in a third car bombing.
