Eastern US hit by wintry blast

world news

| |

Severe snowstorms have brought travel chaos to cities in eastern parts of the United States. Hundreds of flights across the affected region have been cancelled causing misery for travellers, many of whom have had to remain for hours at passenger terminals. Road transport has also been hit hard by heavy snow falls stretching from the Midwest to the Northeast.

It is thought up to half a metre of snow has fallen in some places. Fears of other extreme conditions – hurricane strength winds and coastal flooding – caused Massachusetts to declare a state of emergency. A handful of deaths have been reported.
