A tale of hope in the wake of the devastating tsunami – fourteen days after the tidal wave tore him from his Indonesian homeland, 21-year old Ari Afrizal has been found exhausted but alive drifting on a raft. He was spotted in the Indian Ocean on Sunday by a container ship which brought him back to land in Malaysia’s Port Klang.

He says he was building a house with friends in a coastal town in Aceh province when the tsunami struck. He survived on old coconuts after he chanced upon a leaking fishing boat and then a raft. He says he waved frantically at several ships passing by but didn’t manage to attract attention until the vessel saw him on Sunday. He is the third Indonesian tsunami survivor to be rescued at sea.
