Police in Northern Ireland say a paramilitary group could be behind one of the biggest robbery’s in UK history. Thieves stole more than thirty million euros from the headquarters of Northern Bank late on Monday after families of bank employees were taken hostage the previous evening. They told bank staff to go to work as normal and wait instruction. More than ten masked raiders, some dressed as police officers were involved in the audacious heist.

Some of the people they held captive say the raiders seemed aware of bank processes and security systems. A team of 45 detectives are now working around the clock in an attempt to track the thieves. But police say their task is not an easy one as the thieves were “forensically aware”. However the gang’s only error was not having sufficient transport to take away the entire haul most of which was Northern Ireland bank notes.
