An extreme-right leader in Britain has been released on bail after his arrest on suspicion of inciting racial hatred. Nick Griffin, head of the British National Party, claims the arrest is political, to win Muslim support for the ruling Labour Party. Police inquiries began after Griffin and others were secretly filmed in a TV documentary slamming Islam. One man expressed a wish to blow up mosques and gun down worshippers, while another boasted that he had beaten up a Muslim man.

Griffin, who welcomed the French far-right leader Jean Marie Le Pen to a fund raising dinner in northern England in April, is the 12th person to be arrested by investigators. He has been freed on bail until March. The arrest has been welcomed by Muslim groups who have been calling for the Government to ban the BNP.
