Palestinians prepare for Arafat funeral

world news

| |

The ground where Yasser Arafat is to be buried is blessed with prayer, emphasising the feeling that an official announcement on the Palestinian leader’s death is all but imminent. An era appears to be passing. Bulldozers have been clearing the barricades around Arafat’s Ramallah headquarters. The place where he spent three years under siege is now to become a final resting place and the site of his shrine.

Palestinian Prime Minister, Ahmed Qurie said that Palestinians should unite and pray for Yasser Arafat. Meanwhile, the Palestinian leadership has decided to take up an offer from Egypt for Arafat’s body to lie in state in Cairo for a brief ceremony, before his the actual burial at the Ramallah compound.
