George W. Bush has cast his ballot in the US presidential election in his hometown of Crawford, Texas. Accompanied by his wife and daughters and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, the US president voted at a firehouse near his ranch. He returned home on Monday night after a final blitz through six swing states.

His message to supporters was clear. “This election is in the hands of the people and I feel very comfortable about that,” he said. “People know where I stand. I have enjoyed this campaign. It has been a fantastic experience travelling our country, talking about what I believe and where I’m going to lead this country for four more years and there is something refreshing about giving it your all and then saying the people will make the right decision and I believe I’m going to win.” Bush and his team travelled more than 2,000 miles in less than 24 hours on Monday as he urged large crowds to turn out to vote for him. The president will watch the American people’s verdict from the White House.
